Why Add a Business Administration Minor?

The Business Administration Minor gives non-business majors a basic understanding of how businesses and organizations operate. Through coursework in management, marketing, accounting, technology, and economics, students build practical business knowledge that complements nearly any major and prepares them to work effectively across a wide range of industries and organizations.

Eligible students may complete BADM 540 Internship in Business as one of their upper-level electives, gaining professional experience with organizations such as Berkshire Health Systems, Berkshire Life, State Street Bank, MASS MoCA, Merrill Lynch, and Disney World Partners.

Delta Mu Delta: National Business Honor Society

High-achieving students may be invited to join Delta Mu Delta, the national business honor society. MCLA’s Zeta Zeta Chapter was established in 1992 and has inducted more than 650 members.

 

Business Administration Minor Requirements

A business administration degree prepares graduates for careers across private industry, nonprofit organizations, finance, marketing, and entrepreneurship.

The Business Administration Minor requires 21 credits and is designed for students majoring outside Business Administration. Students complete the following required coursework:

  • ACCT 224: Financial Accounting
  • BADM 100: Explorations in Business or ECON 241: Macroeconomics
  • BADM 110: Information Technology for Business
  • BADM 160: Management
  • BADM 170: Marketing
  • Two Business Administration and Economics electives at the 300 level or above (prerequisites required)

  • BADM 362: Human Resource Management
  • BADM 367: Small Business Entrepreneurship
  • BADM 381: Consumer Behavior

How to Add the Business Administration Minor

Enrolled MCLA students majoring outside Business Administration can add the minor by meeting with their academic advisor to plan the required 21 credits and select approved upper-level electives that complement their degree program.

The Business Administration Minor is designed for students pursuing majors outside Business Administration.

Communications
Communications students strengthen their media and communication skills with practical knowledge of marketing, management, and organizational operations, preparing them to work across corporate, nonprofit, and agency settings.

Arts Management
Arts Management students deepen their understanding of management, marketing, finance, and organizational decision-making while reinforcing the business foundations needed in museums, performing arts organizations, and cultural institutions.

Health Sciences & Nursing
Health Sciences and Nursing students build business literacy in management, finance, and organizational operations, providing a foundation for careers in healthcare administration and leadership.

Interdisciplinary Studies (IDST)
Students designing individualized majors can use the minor to add formal business coursework to interdisciplinary programs combining business with fields such as psychology, science, or communication.

Global & Intercultural Studies (GIST)
GIST students strengthen their understanding of global markets, international organizations, and the role businesses play within the national and global economy.
