Conceived and created by Matthew Cumbie and Tom Truss

“What can you write that you can’t say out loud? When you look between the lines of history books, where can you find your story? When have you had to say no to a dream?”

This Dance Theatre performance reflects on the intimate relationship between Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne as a way to explore queerness, history, intimacy, and the written word.

Love and information
By Caryl Churchill

Directed by Laura Standley and the students of MCLA Theatre’s Directing class

What is it like to live through the information revolution? With over 100 characters and more than 50 thematically linked scenes, the play explores the nature of information, identity, memory, and love. Through a kaleidoscope of short scenes, it poignantly captures the fragmented experience of modern life—the tension between love and survival, knowledge and forgetfulness—and how, amidst the vast expanse of information, people are still searching for connection and understanding.
